Hello everyone! My name is Aspa Gika, which is short for Aspasia and is a Greek name. I grew up in the wonderful Mediterranean island of Crete and at age 9 my parents signed me up for painting lessons with the artist Azaria Madanian. I have been painting ever since!
I earned a graphic design degree in England and began my career designing for the creative department of J.W. Thompson in Athens. Over the years I have had the opportunity to design and illustrate for many well-known brands around the globe. After living in England, Germany and Greece I am now based in the San Francisco / Bay Area and call California my home.
The STUDIO GIKA
After 15 years of designing and art directing, in early 2015 I decided to refocus my career from full-time art director / senior graphic designer to artist / freelance designer. With my passion for painting, and particularly inspired by nature and travel, my present body of work includes paintings for art prints, wallpapers, textiles, and stationery as well as brand illustrations, children’s books, and personal projects. Through the last few years I have worked with companies like MOO, Radiant Brands, and Minted.
